Study Abroad Programs

The Study Abroad Program runs term-long programs-in which students spend a term or more in another country-as well as short-term programs designed and led by DePaul faculty during inter-term periods for 2 to 3 weeks. The programs work as follows:

  • All credit granted through the Study Abroad Program is regular DePaul University credit. Students are required to register for a minimum amount of credit in order to participate.
  • The courses can be used to fulfill liberal studies, major, minor, Junior Year Experiential Learning or elective credit requirements, depending on the rules of each department or college.
  • Language courses offered through the Study Abroad Program can be applied toward the three-course modern language option.
  • Consult an academic advisor in your college to find out exactly how these credits fit into individual academic programs.
  • In cooperation with the Irwin W. Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning, the Study Abroad Program supports programs in economically marginalized areas of the world that are part of a long-term university commitment to international community groups. These programs encourage students to critically consider issues of social and economic justice while participating in service projects that involve collaborative learning between faculty, students and community members.
