The program is led by Noriko Tomuro, an Associate Professor in CDM. Specific course information for this program applies for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Students participating in the program must register in a four credit course (IT 398 for undergraduates, and IT 599 for graduate students) in Fall 2008/2009. IT 398 satisfies the Junior Year Experiential Learning requirement.
IT398 / IT599 - Computer Gaming and Animation in
This course will introduce students to the practices of computer games development and animation production at Japanese Gaming and Animation companies. Undoubtedly, many of the biggest players in the computer games and animation industries today are Japanese companies. Through touring the studios and meeting with the developers and managers, students will learn the characteristics and practices of Japanese Gaming and Animation industries, which are markedly different from those in the US and Europe. Students will also learn about issues and strategies involved in developing games and animation for the global market. Future technologies will also be discussed. Students must plan their budgets to cover additional meals, passport and visa fees, supplies, textbooks, and personal expenses.
Program fees are based on actual costs of the prior year and projections for the current year. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it impossible to state a fixed cost.
Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA to participate in this program. To apply to this program, students must submit the following to the Study Abroad Program office:
• A complete DePaul Study Abroad Program application
• Two (2) academic recommendation forms from faculty familiar with your academic work
• A copy of the DePaul Unofficial Transcript. This may be found on Campus Connect in the Students section under Records and Registration.
• A digital photo uploaded into the application.
