DePaul students are eligible for all the financial aid they would normally receive if they were taking courses on campus. Early application for financial aid increases students’ chances to receive awards for study abroad. See the Financial Aid office for details.
Students are also strongly encouraged to seek outside funding for these programs. Please be aware, however, that the deadlines for funding sources vary and that many require application at least one year before traveling abroad. Information regarding external funding is available through the Study Abroad Program and on the Scholarships page of this site, as well as in the Reference section of the Richardson Library.
These grants may be available to undergraduate students who participate in a DePaul sponsored study abroad program which is at least a quarter in length and/or 8 or more credit hours. The student must have a valid FAFSA on file and exhibit financial need as determined by the FAFSA form. The amount of the grant varies depending on need and other factors. For questions about the grant, contact the Financial Aid office directly.
If you plan to participate in a program that is not sponsored by DePaul University, then the amount of financial aid you can transfer to the program may be limited. Since you will be paying tuition to a different institution, any kind of DePaul specific grants or loans that you are receiving will not be available. You may, however, be able to apply federal, and possibly state, grants and loans depending on the program. Please check with the Financial Aid to ascertain what kind of financial aid you may apply to a non-DePaul program.
